An ACS Eighth Grader To Represent Bulgaria on the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad
The final qualification round of the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO) for students up to 15 years of age took place on May 13. ACS eighth grader Hristo Papazov not only qualified to join the representative team of the country but also became first after the final round leaving behind students coming from math schools all over Bulgaria.

At a tennis tournament held last weekend, May 11 and 12, in DEMA Sports Center ACS students competed with representatives from seven other private schools.

An Honorary High School Diploma for Dr. Carl Djerassi ’42
At a special ceremony at the College this morning, world-famous chemist Dr. Carl Djerassi '42 was presented with an honorary high school diploma in front of ACS students, faculty, and staff. Special guests to the event included Richard Damstra, Cultural Affairs Attaché at the American Embassy, members of the ACS Board of Trustees Valentin Georgiev and Ivo Panteleev, Dr. Djerassi’s pre-war classmates Prof. Nikola Alexiev ’42 and Lilyana Ikonopisova ‘42, members of Dr. Djerassi’s family, and media representatives.

Wonderful Alumni News
We were thrilled to recently find out that Mariya Shoteva ’08 is the proud recipient of the Valedictorian Award from Boston University which she is graduating from with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance degree. For her academic achievement, Mariya will be recognized by serving as the Student Marshall at the Commencement. Additonally, Mariya is the recipient of the 2013 Departmental Award for Voice and was elected by the School of Music faculty to membership in the National Music Honor Society Pi Kappa Lambda, recognition indicative of superior attainment in music. In the fall, Mariya will be joining the New England Conservatory to pursue a Master of Music in Voice and Opera degree with a merit award and scholarship.

High-School Musical on Stage! at ACS – What a Spectacular Show!
On April 24, 26, and 27, the ACS English Drama/Musical Program cast presented performances that will be talked about for a long time to come. Here is an attempt for a brief description of this year’s musical production: exceptional presence on stage, impressive vocal performances, awesome dancing skills, and an audience, emotionally responding to every moment of what was happening on stage.

Very Good Results for ACS from the National Round of the Physics Olympiad
Eight students (Grades 10-12) represented the College at the national round of the Physics Olympiad in Silistra this past weekend (April 20-21). In the highly competitive group of mostly math schools 3 of our students ranked within the Top 20.

Another Great Day of Silence at ACS
On April 19, the College joined many schools around the world in celebrating the Day of Silence. At ACS, the event was initiated by the ACS Embrace Club with advisors ACS teachers Robert Braithwaite and Robert Nosker in support of those who are unable to freely express their beliefs, sexual orientation, or important aspects of their individual identity on a daily basis.
