IB Program

 

 An Overview of the International Baccalaureate Program at the American College of Sofia

 

The American College of Sofia is an authorized IB World School and has offered the IB Diploma Program since 2005. Students not earning a Bulgarian National Diploma are eligible for admission into the two-year IB program. ACS provides a challenging, college-preparatory curriculum for all IB students and hires teachers who are experts in their subject matter. Students who enroll in the IB Diploma Program are also given the opportunity to fulfill the requirements for the ACS American diploma, which is awarded to students independently of the diploma granted by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). 

ACS offers a wide range of courses in the IB, including English, French, Spanish, German, economics, mathematics, history, and biology. In addition, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Community-Action-Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE) serve as integral components of the diploma, encouraging students to extend themselves intellectually, while also considering areas of social responsibility. The IB program culminates in May when students sit for their final examinations.

 

ACS promotes the personal and intellectual development of each student through the IB program, as outlined by the IBO.
