Hollywood Actor, Dimiter Marinov, to Speak at ACS in Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Re-opening of the College and the 120th Anniversary of US-BG Diplomatic Relations

It is not often that a Hollywood star pays a visit to the American College of Sofia. In fact, it is rather rare, but this coming Wednesday, April 5th will be one such occasion.

Dimiter Marinov became the first Bulgarian actor to step on the red carpet at the 91st Academy Awards after he played a significant supporting role in the Best Picture Winner in 2019 - Green Book. The film also won 3 Golden Globe Awards, Hollywood Film Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.

In Hollywood, he crafted a significant resume partnering with Jeff Bridges, Selena Gomez, Kiefer Sutherland, Sofia Vergara, Matthew Perry, William Shatner and many more, but his "big break" was in Green Book (2018) directed by Peter Farrelly. In 2019, Marinov was selected as a special guest actor in S.W.A.T. and has partnered in a supporting role with Denzel Washington. Most recently he has been involved with Follow Me (2020), The Little Things (2021), Night Court (2023-), Flight 704 (2023), and For All Mankind (2023).

Himself an educator, Dimiter Marinov was invited to be a teacher assistant to renowned Hollywood instructor Bernard Hiller, who discovered Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and others, and also helped prepare Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for A Star is Born (2018). Dimiter Marinov also manages Marinov Actors Studio in San Diego, as well as Screen Acting Academy in Sofia.

At the Whitaker Auditorium, Dimiter Marinov will speak to the ACS community on his Bulgarian roots, the challenging road to success, and the meaning of “a big break in Hollywood.” Dimiter’s journey to stardom, like so many on this road, experienced challenging times. His path to success is an example of what is often referred to as the American Dream

Over the past 30 years, the American College of Sofia has helped talented and persistent students on their journey to success. What a wonderful way to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the re-opening of the College and the 120th anniversary of US-BG diplomatic relations. This campus event is held in partnership between the American College of Sofia and Phoenix Art Network, with the support of the ACS Parent-Ambassadors.
