Admissions 2012-2013

Requirements for Application:

1. An average grade of "B" (3.0 on a scale of 4.0) in academic subjects for the previous academic year.
2. Demonstrated English language proficiency.
3. Entrance exams
• Applicants for grades 9-12 are required to take a comprehensive entrance exam prior to enrolment. Administered at the American College, the test will measure reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and mathematic skills. Applicants for the 9th grade are required to achieve at least the average scores in proficiency achieved by Bulgarian students leaving the 8th grade at the College. Applicants for the 10th, 11th, or 12th grades are required to demonstrate significantly higher scores.
• Bulgarian citizens will have an additional assessment in Bulgarian.
• If students have previously taken a foreign language, they will be required to take an exam to determine placement.

Priority Admissions:

International students will be admitted to the American College of Sofia in the following order of preference if they meet the requirements for application:
A. Dependent children of United States government employees.
B. Graduates of the eighth grade at the Anglo-American School, Sofia.
C. Other international students in the order of their application, until available spaces are filled.
D. Children of official Bulgarian diplomats who have studied at an international school abroad for at least one academic year.

Transfer students are admitted on a rolling basis (year-round) according to space availability and the College’s acceptance of prior official high school records indicating achievement at a level that corresponds to that required of all students at the College.

The American College of Sofia is not able to provide programs for students with special needs.

The American College of Sofia admits students with Bulgarian citizenship who meet the academic entrance requirements and have studied at international schools abroad where the medium of instruction is English. In addition to the admissions requirements listed above, students who have only Bulgarian citizenship must also present official transcripts, legalized by the Ministry of Education. Bulgarian students who are currently studying in Bulgarian schools, and who wish to transfer, are not accepted.

Fees:

1. Registration fee. The registration fee for the 2012-2013 academic year is 350 Euros, VAT inclusive. The registration fee is due upon application. It covers the expenses of processing and evaluating the applicant’s documents, administering placement tests, and is not refundable. Following the requirements of the applicable tax legislation, an invoice is issued within 5 days of the payment of the registration fee. The invoice for the registration fee is issued to the name of the parents and can not be paid by a juridical person.

2. Tuition fee. The tuition fee is 15,000 Euros for the 2012-2013 academic year. This is an all-inclusive fee for instruction, books, and use of all school facilities. It does not include the price of meals at the school, transportation, excursions, school supplies, or other incidental expenses. The tuition fee may be invoiced and paid by a juridical person (legal entity) based on the parents’ wishes. Provided that the parents wish the tuition fee to be paid by a juridical person, an additional trilateral agreement is signed between the parents, ACS, and the company. Financial assistance is available at up to 50% and will be determined after registering and submitting the forms for application and financial aid.
