ACS Model UN Club Performs Outstandingly in Frankfurt

By Dr. Zornitsa Semkova, ACS MUN Club Sponsor

Applauses to our MUN Team for their amazing performance at the Main MUN Conference at Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany!

A team of 14 ACS Model UN Club members, led by ACS teachers Zornitsa Semkova and Elena Anatchkova '11, attended the 19th international MainMUN Conference in Frankfurt, Germany from February 21 tо 25, along with 300 delegates from Europe, Asia, and North America. The majority of the participants were university students, some even PhD students. Our team performed outstandingly well in the numerous committees to which they were assigned nevertheless. Our juniors and seniors represented France and Belarus and worked in the UN General Assembly, the Foreign Minister Summit, the Committee of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the Arctic Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council, and discussed a range of issues among which Preventing Conflict and Promoting Stability in Fragile States, Access to Justice for Vulnerable Groups, Internal Displacement, Illicit Drug Trade, Sustainable Use of Atomic Energy, the Situation in Sudan and Yemen, etc.

In the spirit of promoting diversity, collaboration, and inclusion, rather than competitiveness, the conference organizerers announced they would not be giving awards. Even so, we are proud to share that the ACS delegates were among the primary sponsors of all of the resolutions which passed and were among the most active contributors at the conference.

A part of the ACS delegation managed to squeeze in a visit to the European Central Bank where they learned a lot about its functioning and responsibilities.

We would also like to express our special thanks to our hosts from Goethe University who courageously dealt with all the intricacies of holding an event of this magnitude, and the support of the ACS administration, which made the visit possible.
