ACS Swimming Team Achieves Excellent Results at the 14th Sofia Cup

January 12, 2026 -- We begin the year with inspiring news. On December 12, 2025, the American College of Sofia swimming team delivered a powerful performance at the 14th Sofia Cup Tournament at the Madara Swimming Pool. Our athletes demonstrated the rigorous preparation and character that define our community.

The tournament featured exceptional individual results. Mariyana Shalamanova ’26 claimed gold in the 50m butterfly and silver in the 50m freestyle, showcasing mastery at the highest level. Similarly, Karina Mitrova ’30 secured first place in the 50m butterfly and second in the 50m freestyle.

The depth of our talent was further evidenced by Lili Ilkova ’30, who earned a strong fourth place in the 50m butterfly. Notably, as 8th-graders, Karina and Lili fearlessly excelled against older competitors, standing out as the youngest elite athletes in their group.

The collective effort culminated in a significant milestone: the ACS female swimming team proudly lifted the second-place overall trophy.

The spirit of ACS was also carried by Maria Trifonova ’29 (8th in backstroke), while Kaloyan Tsonev ’29, Nikol Ivanova ’30, and Martin Dimitrov ’28 secured Top 15 finishes. Ivan Trandev ’29 displayed excellent technique, setting personal bests and helping the mixed relay team reach 5th place.

These achievements are a testament to the discipline and spirit of our students. We congratulate our athletes and look forward to the continued growth of the ACS swimming program.
