ELIGIBILITY

• Bulgarian citizens who study in Bulgarian schools, complete Grade 7 in the year of application, and have achieved a GPA of 5.00 or above for Semester I of the school year.

• Bulgarian citizens who study in accredited international schools in Bulgaria, complete Grade 7 in the year of application, and have achieved a GPA of 5.00 or above for Semester I of the school year.

• Bulgarian citizens who study in the Victor Hugo French Lyceum in Grade 5 in the French system in the year of application, and have achieved a GPA of 5.00 or above for Semester I of the school year.

• Foreign citizens with permanent residency in Bulgaria and assigned Bulgarian identification number (EGN) who study in Bulgarian schools, complete Grade 7 in the year of application, and have achieved a GPA of 5.00 or above for Semester I of the school year.

• Foreign citizens with permanent residency in Bulgaria and assigned Bulgarian identification number (EGN) who study in accredited international schools in Bulgaria, complete Grade 7 in the year of application, and have achieved a GPA of 5.00 or above for Semester I of the school year.

• Foreign citizens with permanent residency in Bulgaria and assigned Bulgarian identification number (EGN) who study in the Victor Hugo French Lyceum in Grade 5 in the French system in the year of application, and have achieved a GPA of 5.00 or above for Semester I of the school year.

Eligible applicants take an entrance examination that consists of two components: (1) a four-section comprehensive test and (2) an essay. The examination is conducted in the Bulgarian language. Applicants are ranked based on their overall examination results.

The College admits approximately 180 students, 90 girls and 90 boys, ranked separately by gender and exam results. In the initial phase of enrollment, 110 girls and 110 boys receive invitations to enroll. The rest of the applicants form a Waiting (Reserve) List. The ranking on the Waiting List is based on the exam score regardless of gender. Vacancies are filled from the Waiting List until all 180 places are confirmed.

All admitted students in this category are eligible to apply for full scholarships or a partial reduction in annual tuition.

Enrolled students follow the five-year Bulgarian National High School Curriculum Program. Upon successful completion, students receive the National Bulgarian High School Diploma and the American High School Diploma.

EXAM FORMAT

Student admission after 7th grade is based on the results of the entrance exam, which contains two components: an essay and a test. The exam is conducted in Bulgarian and is aligned with the expected development of 7th-grade students. No prior preparation is necessary.

ESSAY 

• The essay is a text based on a given task, which is not related to the literature curriculum. 

• Duration: 30 minutes for writing the essay. 

• The essay accounts for 20% of the final result. 

• Assessment: The candidate's ability to clearly formulate an opinion or thesis, to handle arguments, using logically connected and well-structured reasoning, is evaluated. 

• Evaluation criteria: 

• Rhetorical abilities (formulating a thesis, creating a coherent text, originality). 

• Language culture (spelling, punctuation, style). 

• Checking: Essays are graded by two examiners (maximum 20 points from each). The final result is the sum of their grades. In case of a difference of 4 or more points, the work is checked by an arbitrator, and their grade is doubled. 

• Time advice (30 min): 5 min for reading and understanding the task, 20 min for writing, 5 min for reading and editing.

TEST 

• The test includes four sections, which may contain mathematical, language, and logical tasks. 

• The time for working on each of the sections is 25 minutes. 

• The test part accounts for 80% of the final result. 

• The format of the questions may require the candidate to either write the answer themselves or choose it from several listed options. Answers are recorded on a separate answer sheet. 

• Advice: Candidates should focus on the questions they find easy, striving to answer each question as well as possible.

PUBLICATION OF RESULTS 

The final ranking is based only on the total result of the test and the essay.

ENROLLMENT 

• After the results are published, the first 110 boys and 110 girls receive invitations to enroll. 

• Waiting List: The remaining ranked candidates form a waiting list. They may be invited if there are unfilled spots. When enrolling from the waiting list, their exam result is considered, regardless of their gender.
