INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS AND BULGARIAN TRANSFER APPLICANTS FROM ABROAD

The American College of Sofia integrates the values and best practices of American pedagogy with the rich educational traditions of Bulgaria and Europe. We seek to develop critical thinking, lifelong intellectual curiosity, leadership, and collaboration among multi-talented students from various social, cultural, economic, and geographic backgrounds.

The American College of Sofia admits qualified Bulgarian and International students who meet defined academic criteria and complete an entrance examination. Qualified candidates are ranked based on their entrance examination results.

ADMISSIONS PRINCIPLES

Admission is merit-based and competitive.

Applicants are evaluated according to clearly defined academic criteria and entrance examination results.

The College promotes equal opportunity and diversity within its student body.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Foreign citizens whose academic record certifies the minimum grade point average of “B” or 3 on a 4-point scale for the last two years of study.

  • Foreign citizens with dual citizenship whose academic record certifies the minimum grade point average of “B” or 3 on a 4-point scale for the last two years of study.

  • Bulgarian citizens transferring from accredited international schools whose academic record certifies the minimum grade point average of “B” or 3 on a 4-point scale for the last two years of study.

Eligible applicants take the standardized ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) in English. The exam is prepared and evaluated by the external organization, ERB (Educational Records Bureau), for independent academic assessment. The American College of Sofia is the test site for the admissions exam. All applicants take the Upper Level of the ISEE exam.

Based on the test results, selected candidates may be invited for an in-person interview. The number of admitted students is determined by the number of available spaces.

Admissions are conducted year-round (depending on available spots at the College).

Enrolled students follow the College’s international curriculum that culminates with the IB Diploma Programme during Grades 11 and 12. Upon successful completion, students receive the IB Diploma and the American High School Diploma.

Bulgarian citizens in this category may choose the option of enrolling in the Bulgarian National Curriculum Program. To qualify, they need to legalize their official academic transcripts through the Ministry of Education and Science, and pass any make-up exams. Upon successful completion, such students receive the National Bulgarian High School Diploma and the American High School Diploma. Eligibility for the Bulgarian National Curriculum Program does not change their admissions status as Bulgarian students transferring from accredited international schools.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit official academic transcripts for the last two years of study, certifying a minimum average grade of “B” or 3 on a 4-point scale.
