BULGARIAN APPLICANTS FROM ABROAD WITH DIPLOMATIC STATUS

The American College of Sofia integrates the values and best practices of American pedagogy with the rich educational traditions of Bulgaria and Europe. We seek to develop critical thinking, lifelong intellectual curiosity, leadership, and collaboration among multi-talented students from various social, cultural, economic, and geographic backgrounds.

The American College of Sofia admits qualified Bulgarian and International students who meet defined academic criteria and complete an entrance examination. Qualified candidates are ranked based on their entrance examination results.

ADMISSIONS PRINCIPLES

Applicants are evaluated according to clearly defined academic criteria and entrance examination results.

ELIGIBILITY

Bulgarian students who have attended accredited international schools due to their family’s diplomatic postings may be considered for admission to the Bulgarian National Curriculum Program if they meet the following admissions criteria:

  • Present academic records that certify the minimum grade point average of “B” or 3 on a 4-point scale for the two most recent years of study.

  • Present a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official confirmation of a parent’s diplomatic status.

  • Legalize official academic transcripts through the Ministry of Education and Science, and pass any make-up exams.

  • Take the standardized ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) in English. The exam is prepared and evaluated by the external organization, ERB (Educational Records Bureau), for independent academic assessment. The American College of Sofia is the test site for the admissions exam. All applicants take the Upper Level of the ISEE exam.

Admitted students in this category are eligible to apply for a reduction of the annual tuition.

Enrolled students follow the five-year Bulgarian National Curriculum Program. Upon successful completion, students receive the National Bulgarian High School Diploma and the American High School Diploma.
