ACS Dedicates Concert Hall to Ambassador Avis T. Bohlen

June 1, 2026 --- On May 22, 2026, the American College of Sofia held a dedication ceremony formally naming its concert hall after Ambassador Avis T. Bohlen, one of its longest-serving Trustees and a distinguished retired diplomat, in recognition of her exceptional service and enduring contribution to the College.

The naming reflects Ambassador Bohlen’s long-standing relationship with ACS and her steadfast commitment to its values, people, and future. The concert hall that now bears her name embodies qualities that have defined her life and work: discipline, preparation, intellectual rigor, and an unwavering seriousness of purpose.

Her connection with ACS began during her service as U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria, when she helped establish key partnerships and opportunities that supported the College during a formative period in its modern history. Since joining the Board of Trustees in 2002, she has remained a dedicated presence and trusted voice in the institution’s development.

Ambassador Bohlen’s career spans some of the most significant moments in modern diplomacy. Across decades of public service, she has brought clarity of thought, depth of experience, and thoughtful leadership to complex international challenges.

Theodora Konetsovska, Chair of the ACS Board of Trustees, addressed Amb. Bohlen during the dedication event: “This space exemplifies you in hundreds of ways. Dialogue, introduction to new concepts, breaking down of biases, intentional intellectual challenge, celebration of talent and rigor, a melting pot of international cultures, and coming together. Fully prepared, like you. Because doing anything halfway just won’t do.”

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Bohlen reflected warmly on ACS students, describing them as “remarkable and exceptional young people.” In this hall, generations of students will not only learn to perform and present, but also to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and prepare for the world ahead.
