ACSer Earns First Place at the National History Olympiad
May 7, 2026 --- The American College of Sofia is pleased to share that Ilia Iliev (12/1, Humanities Profile) secured first place at the National Round of the History Olympiad. The competition took place in late april in Koprivshtitsa, where Ilia achieved a cumulative score of 6.00 across both days of evaluation.
This result reflects Ilia’s academic stamina and his ability to engage deeply with complex historical themes. His work during the Olympiad focused on the subject of human rights in the contemporary world, as well as a detailed discussion on the Great Depression in the United States and Europe and the subsequent development of Western democracies following World War II.
Ilia’s performance is notable for the context in which it was achieved. He competed against a field of peers who had been engaged in rigorous, additional preparation specifically designed for Bulgarian university history entrance examinations. His success serves as an example of the analytical skills and self-confidence fostered within the ACS community.
We congratulate Ilia on this significant academic milestone and extend our appreciation to all the History teachers who have guided him throughout his time at the College. Their mentorship has played an essential role in preparing him for this high level of national competition.
