Admissions 2026-2027

Admission to the international program for the 2026-27 academic year is now open.

The College welcomes applications from Bulgarian students who have studied at foreign schools (in Bulgaria or abroad) during the previous year, as well as applicants with foreign or dual citizenship. Admissions are year-round and depend on academic results and available spots. Graduates receive two diplomas: an American High School Diploma and an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

The American College is the oldest American educational institutions outside the USA, founded in Plovdiv in 1860. The College is an independent school with highly competitive admissions and a well-developed and expanding IB program for international students.

The American College of Sofia integrates the values and best practices of American pedagogy with the rich educational traditions of Bulgaria and Europe. We seek to develop critical thinking, lifelong intellectual curiosity, leadership, and collaboration among multi-talented students of various social, cultural, economic, and geographic backgrounds.

At the College, we believe that the diversity of experiences and cultures that students bring enriches the academic experience for everyone. Currently, the American College's international student program includes students from the United States, Bulgaria, Canada, Spain, Denmark, Ukraine, Great Britain, Greece, Russia, France, and other countries.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Submit official academic transcripts for the last two years of study, certifying a minimum average grade of “B” or 3 on a 4-point scale.
Take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) in English. The exam is prepared and assessed by the external organization for independent academic assessment, ERB (Educational Records Bureau). The exam measures reading comprehension, verbal reasoning ability, mathematical skills, and the composition of a short written text (essay).

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

The American College of Sofia is an accredited IB World School, which has been offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) since 2005. International students and Bulgarian students coming from abroad or foreign schools in Bulgaria can apply for admission to the two-year course. It provides intensive instruction in various educational areas. Students also meet the requirements for the American High School Diploma, which is awarded independently of the IB Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Organization.
