ACS Junior Impresses Widely with His Neural Networks in Image Recognition IT Project
Congratulations to Spas Stoimenov '26!
We couldn't be prouder of ACS junior Spas Stoimenov and the success he has recently had at various prestigious forums with his project Neural Networks in Computer Vision for Sign Language Recognition, whereby artificial intelligence software recognizes the Bulgarian sign language alphabet and transforms messages into written text. All a person has to do is show the sign with their hand to the camera, and the program visualizes the corresponding letter to write out words.
It started with the regional round of the Information Technology Olympiad where Spas secured second place in the competition within the category Big Data.
Since, Spas has been selected to participate in the national round of the IT Olympiad, in which only 15 projects were chosen from over 40 pre-qualified submissions in the Big Data category.
At the ACS Science Fair held April 25, Spas won The Best Overall Project Audience Award, while at the International Science Festival FISSION the following day it was chosen as the Best Computer Science Project.
Congratulations to Spas, то his mentor Elka Kondakova, and to all the bright minds who illuminate the future of science!
