ACS Model UN 4 a Smashing Success

Congratulations to Organizers, Chairs, and Delegates!

Dear Community,

I would like to congratulate our seniors Sophia Bobochikova, Stanimira Petrova, and Ema Yordanova on their impeccably planned and implemented Senior Independent Honors Project, the fourth ACS Model United Nations Conference! Well done dear seniors, your conference was a smashing success!

Over the weekend, 82 students from ACS, Deutsche Schule Sofia (DSS), Uwekind private school, 91. German Language School, First English Language School, Emilian Stanev High School (#2) , and Indira Gandhi High School (#79) either as delegates or volunteer-helpers held intense sessions searching for diplomatic solutions to current and historical international crises in order to promote peace and cooperation and to create a better future for humanity. At the opening ceremony, the conference was addressed by Ms. Sargent Beasley and our prominent key-note speakers, the Youth Delegates of Bulgaria to the United Nations Organization, Alexander Yanev and Kosta Karakashyan ’14. Kosta is an alumnus from the ACS Class of 2014.

The three committees, Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (GA3), Special Political and Decolonization Committee (GA4), and Historical Crisis Committee (HCC) discussed the topics of Combating Gender-Based Violence, Tackling the Opioid Overdose Epidemic, Combating Gang Violence in Haiti, Addressing the Challenge of Pirates in the Southern Hemisphere, and negotiated a peace treaty in the Korean War, 1950-1953. All committees worked excellently due to the very serious level of preparation demonstrated by the delegates as well as the masterful leadership of the honorable committee chairs, the three SIHP leaders themselves as well as Svetlozar Dimitrov '25, Adrian Döerfler '25, Iva Ivanova '24, and Velislav Vaglev '24. All committees managed to pass thoughtful and relevant resolutions and to reach mutual agreements.

The awards were split between ACS and Deutsche Schule as follows:

GA3:

- Best position paper: Kalina Doychinova (DSS) - China

- Honorable mention: Iosif Enguix (DSS) - South Africa

- Best delegate: Mihaela Emanuilova (ACS '25) - Iran

GA4:

- Best position paper: Raya Hadzhiyska (ACS '26) - Venezuela

- Honorable mention: Nicolette Peytchev (DSS) - Peru

- Best delegate: Zara Filipova (ACS '25) - Haiti

HCC:

- Honorable Mention: Zachary Pavlov (ACS '24) - Vladimir Razuvayev (USSR)

- Best Delegate: Kaloyan Kotzev (ACS '25) - Matthew Ridgway (USA)

The conference would have been impossible without the generous support of the Student Activities Fund and our generous sponsors Hotel Vega Sofia, Baldaran Mineral Water, Mondelez, and Smart Organic. We highly appreciate their help!

We are also grateful to Ms. Sargent Beasely, Ms. Petia Ivanova and Mr. Georgi Metodiev from the Development Office, Dr. Vasil Ninov, the IT Office, and the whole ACS administration who made this possible.

Have a nice day,

Dr. Zornitsa Semkova
