ACS to host the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards in Bulgaria, Bronze

On Tuesday, June 18, the American College of Sofia will host the ceremony of handing out the Bronze Level awards of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards in Bulgaria. Starting at 4:30 PM in the Whitaker Auditorium, Lubomira Velcheva, Executive Director of the Award in Bulgaria and Dr. Richard Tucker Ewing Jr., ACS President, will personally award badges and certificates to the sixty-two Bulgarian students who successfully completed the program at the Bronze Level.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards is a leadership skills and personal development program, which has been operating for more than 60 years in 130 countries. The Award has been available in Bulgaria for 5 years, under the patronage of the Bulgarian Presidency. Throughout all levels, which take between 18 months for Gold and 6 months for Bronze, participants challenge themselves in three areas: Skills, Physical Recreation, and Service. Through the particular activities which the young participants choose to exercise in the program, in addition to the Adventurous Journey at the end, they refine selected skills, develop habits, perseverance and discipline, increase their physical fitness, and commit time and effort to community service.

At the beginning of May, four American College of Sofia seniors received the Gold Level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Bulgaria, while 8 ACS students will be receiving the Bronze Level award on Tuesday.
