College Counseling Activities

Lunchtime Workshops

In order to increase awareness among our students of specific factors involved in applying to multiple destinations around the world, the College Counseling Department runs bi-weekly COLLEGE COUNSELING LUNCHTIME WORKSHOPS as a regular feature in the schedule. Students are encouraged to attend as many lunchtime workshops as possible. This information can be found in Google Classroom.

Virtual University Visits

In order to increase the presence of Colleges and Universities on campus the College Counseling Department runs a series of online “virtual” university presentations with schools that we pilot throughout the application season. Students are encouraged to attend as many virtual visits as possible.  This information can be found in Google Classroom.

University Visits

ACS hosts a number of University and College Admissions Representatives throughout the year. These representatives visit either during lunch or after school and represent universities from all over the world. Information about upcoming university visits can be found on the Daily Bulletin and on the ACS Website. Students are encouraged to attend as many university fairs as possible. This information can be found in Google Classroom.

University Fairs

ACS hosts university fairs throughout the year. These fairs usually involve a group of universities from a particular region visiting on the same day. Information about upcoming university fairs can be found on the Daily Bulletin and on the ACS Website. Students are encouraged to attend as many university fairs as possible. This information can be found in Google Classroom.

Senior Parents Meetings

The College Counseling office organizes a comprehensive meeting with the parents of all senior students to talk in detail about the exciting challenges ahead as their sons and daughters look to a future beyond our school community and perhaps beyond Bulgaria. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the options available, and the ways in which parents can work with the Counseling Office as we support our students in the application process.

Junior Jumpstart

In first semester, the counselors present a program to eleventh graders called Junior Jumpstart which marks the formal beginning of the college process for the eleventh grade class. Throughout the event, students are thoroughly informed about educational opportunities and application processes in the UK, US, Europe, and beyond. This information can be found in Google Classroom.

Junior Parent Meeting

Following Junior Jumpstart, which marks the formal beginning of the college process for the eleventh grade class, parents are invited to attend an evening meeting covering the same topics along with financial aid and financing options.

College Counseling Google Classroom

This particular college counseling Google Classroom is a vital resource for our students. Our classroom contains information for all students grades 9 - 12 to begin utilizing now. There will be items/assignments/events posted that may be specific to certain grade levels, however you will notice that we will advertise or tag these with the words, "attention (sophomores, or juniors, or seniors)".

This classroom will allow students to familiarize themselves with many topics that will become increasingly important as they near the first semester of senior year. We urge all students to join the classroom, and pay attention to the posts, as students in grades 11 and 12 will have assignments and will need to be informed in order to make their University Search and Application Process as smooth and successful as possible.

In addition to the plethora of resources made available in the CCGC, counselors utilize the classroom to post the weekly sign up calendar, whereby students can schedule a meeting with counselors. The sign up schedule is typically released every Friday afternoon. Students should note that throughout the year, the sign up has been prioritized by grade level and time of year. For example, Seniors get priority for the first half of any academic year. We release the sign up to different grade levels at different times of the year, as we must prioritize certain groups at certain times. All students can drop in during lunchtime and consultation.

Parent meetings should always be arranged by the parent via email or phone call to Mrs. Desislava Veleva. Any parent meetings listed on our sign up sheet by a student will be promptly removed! Only counselors can list a parent meeting on the schedule.
