ACS Displaced Ukrainian Student Admission

February 20, 2024

As war broke out in Ukraine in the spring of 2022 and many citizens were fleeing, The American College of Sofia quickly acted to help displaced students. Together with the support of America For Bulgaria Foundation, the cost of tuition for the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year was waived for ten new Ukrainian displaced high school students at ACS. The College waived the cost of tuition and provided the new students with Chromebook computers to use and support from the ACS Social & Emotional Counseling Department so they can quickly accommodate to the school environment. We were delighted to welcome the majority of these students back for the 2022-2023 and 2023 - 2024 school years, again with financial aid, provided by America for Bulgaria Foundation.

The Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Ambassador Olesia Ilashchuk, visited the displaced Ukrainian students at ACS. We thank the Ambassador for creating and extending a sense of belonging and pride for our students. Upon saying goodbye, the Ambassador shared special thanks for America for Bulgaria Foundation and ACS: “On behalf of Ukraine, the mothers and the fathers, thank you for all you do for our children.

The American College of Sofia waived the cost of tuition for the 2021-2022 school year for Displaced Ukrainian high school students as an act of solidarity and support. Our displaced students wishing to continue their studies at ACS next year, in the 2022-2023 school year, may apply for financial assistance. Only students who have spent at least one full academic year at ACS are eligible to receive the American diploma. Students who enrolled into 11th grade the previous academic year, could choose to repeat 11th grade in order to be eligible to receive the full IB diploma upon completion of 12th grade. The two-year IB diploma program currently requires students to complete their studies at one institution, in most cases.

ACS education includes classroom instruction, Chromebook, textbooks, social/emotional & college counseling and use of all school facilities. It does not include the price of meals at the school, transportation, excursions, school supplies, IB exam fees, or other incidental expenses.

The American College of Sofia stands united with Ukraine and its students.
