our emotional, impactful, and brilliant play

Between Worlds

written by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt,

translated by Snejina Russinova-Zdravkova,

directed by Marian Bachev.

Julien Portal, an ordinary newspaper editor, suddenly appears in a hotel with no memory of arriving there after a flashy car crash. But this hotel is not ordinary: the windows are locked, there's no staircase, it has just one elevator. In this clinic, six mysterious doctors in black coats take care of all the hotel guests. There are guests from all walks of life: an arrogant businesswoman, an old and wise magician, a kind-hearted cleaning lady. All have one thing in common: they are all between life and death, heaven and Earth, stuck in the hotel between worlds.

And an abundance of exhilarating events occurs while the guests are waiting for destiny to take its course: Delbec cannot stop thinking of ways to disinherit her family, Marie is snatched away by the haunting elevator, and Julien falls head over heels for the new arrival at the hotel, the brave and inspiring Laura.

Nervously asking the doctors clothed in black about new information, the guests wait for their destiny to be decided by a simple elevator: up – heaven, down – life.

It will be a roller coaster of tears and joy, love and separation, and 90 minutes of precious life lessons.
